Until now, there have only been a few options for restaurant owners when it came to delivery.
- Offer no delivery at all, missing out on the large portion of consumers who prefer not to go out.
- Hire delivery drivers and hope demand warrants the cost as well as the increased liability.
- Use BIG DELIVERY companies that charge huge per order fees, mark up menu items and nickel and dime the restaurants, drivers and consumers alike.
Not much of a choice. And most Restaurant Owners are getting tired of overpaying for delivery fees and marking up their menu items only to benefit these Big Delivery companies in hopes of staying relevant and getting a little exposure.
But now there’s a new Hybrid Delivery option that’s catching on like wildfire amongst restaurant owners and managers around the country. It’s called Snap Delivered and there’s several great benefits for everyone.
The first big benefit is that the restaurant is only charged $2 per delivery for any order up to $200. This is not a teaser rate. This is the actual rate ongoing. For larger orders there of course are additional but small incremental fees.
To really grasp this value I did some calculations.
Let’s assume a restaurant only averages 20 deliveries a day at an average order value of $40. With Big Delivery, that restaurant would probably pay between $160-$240 (20-30%) in delivery fees per day. With Snap Delivered, it would only pay $40 per day. A difference of $120 – $200 in daily savings or an annual savings of approximately $43,800 to $73,000. That’s huge.
What could a restaurant do with that extra money? Lot’s I assume.
And because there’s no menu markup, it will encourage customers to order more frequently.
That in itself is a great benefit but here’s where it gets interesting. The ‘Hybrid’ part.
So far, restaurants were paying Big Delivery companies all those fees so they could fatten their wallets without ever preparing a morsel of food or actually making any deliveries themselves. The Big Delivery companies have shareholders and boards of directors that need to get paid at the expense of the restaurateur, the drivers and even the consumer.
But with this new Hybrid System, Restaurant Owners and Drivers alike get to share in the proceeds instead of handing it over to the fat cats. It’s kind of a quasi-partnership.
Let me explain.
At no cost to the Restaurant owners or Drivers, they can essentially partner with the company.
When they help spread the word that they’re now using this new delivery service and provide their unique code and someone signs up at no cost and uses the service, the referrer (you) gets paid.
It’s a relatively small amount earned on a per order basis but smart restaurant owners are getting signed up and pushing it to every driver that comes in, every customer that receives their food and even happily sharing it with other restaurant owners to build up volume.
Oh and let’s be clear. This is not a simple one time referral fee or rebate. You get paid ongoing forever as long as the person you referred to is using the service. Not bad for doing something once.
I did the math and even for a smaller establishment, it could work out to be quite significant given enough time and consistent effort.
I mean why not? Big Delivery never gave any significant or long lasting rewards for sharing their apps.
Imagine this. This is brilliant. As a restaurant owner or manager, you recommend the service to another restaurant. Every time that restaurant sends an order out using the service, you get paid. LOL! Like I said, Brilliant! Most importantly it’s not hurting or taking away from anyone. It actually helps a lot of people and it’s passive.
The same goes for Drivers. They can share and make additional income passively. It seems to me like they would be stepping up their service so they have more opportunity to share too.
Sounds like an overall win.
Oh and just to be clear, sharing is not at all a requirement in order to get the 2 dollar deliveries. It’s just an added bonus. I’m not sure why anyone would not take advantage of it.
Anyway, if all this did was cut a restaurant’s fees way down with a possibility of even a little passive revenue, why wouldn’t they explore it?
There has to be a down side right?
I guess it just depends on how you look at it.
Being a grass roots company just starting out, there’s not many locations open yet. But in my opinion, that’s great news. If you wait until the area is saturated, you still get the $2 delivery fee but lose the opportunity to earn that extra income.
In order to open an area, there is a minimum number of restaurants and drivers that are needed in a geographic location. That just makes sense though.
If you’re one of those first restaurants in those areas, you might have to do some simple promotion in order to help get the area open. That’s where the quasi-partnership comes in. But don’t worry, it’s not complicated.
Just hand each driver a card or flier and put one in each bag of food you send out encouraging people to get signed up. This has apparently proven to be effective in getting the word out quickly and is something I can help you with fast.
It’s about time something like this came out.
In fact, when I heard about it, I signed up right away with a great vision of the future.
